Videos and reels from public Facebook posts
Copy the link of a video or reel on Facebook and paste it here. In the Facebook app, tap Share, then Copy link.
How to download a Facebook video or reel
- Copy the link. In the Facebook app or on the website, open the video or reel, then choose Share and Copy link.
- Paste the link into the box above.
- Press Download. GetSave lists the files that Facebook has for this video.
- Choose a quality and press Download next to it. If the row says Needs processing, the server prepares the file first and a progress bar appears. The download usually starts by itself when the file is ready. If it does not, press Save file.
Formats and quality
GetSave lists the qualities Facebook has for the video. It cannot make a video look better than the highest quality Facebook keeps.
- Video (MP4): often 720p is ready immediately, and 1080p needs a short preparation on the server. Some links only give one lower quality, such as 360p. Some lower qualities are listed under More qualities.
- Audio only (M4A): in the Audio tab, when Facebook keeps the sound of the video as a separate track.
- Photos (JPG): from public posts with photos, when the post link works. Links to a whole post fail more often than links to a single video or reel.
- Several videos in one post: each video is listed separately, as Video 1, Video 2 and so on. These posts take longer to load, and their links fail more often.
Which Facebook links work
GetSave works with links to public videos and reels. This includes facebook.com/reel and facebook.com/watch links, share links that start with facebook.com/share/r/ or facebook.com/share/v/, fb.watch links, and videos on Facebook pages or in public groups. Links that start with m.facebook.com or web.facebook.com work too.
These links do not work in the box above:
- Private videos, and videos that only friends or members of a group can see. If you can watch such a video on Facebook, you can try the Private video page. It works only for some videos.
- Most Stories. A story disappears after 24 hours, and many story links fail even before then.
- Live videos while they are live. Recordings of past live videos often fail too.
- Links to a profile or a page instead of a video.
- Post links that contain story.php or permalink.php. Open the video itself, then copy its link.
Where to find the downloaded video
- iPhone and iPad: Safari puts the file in the Downloads folder of the Files app, and Chrome puts it in the Chrome folder there. Open the file, tap Share and choose Save Video to add it to the Photos app. For a photo, choose Save Image.
- Android: open the Downloads folder in your file manager (Files or My Files). On most phones the video also appears in the Gallery or Photos app.
- Computer: open your browser's list of downloads, or the Downloads folder.
Frequently asked questions
Is GetSave free?
Yes. Downloading costs nothing, and there is no paid plan.
Do I need a Facebook account?
No. You do not log in or sign up on GetSave, and GetSave never asks for your Facebook password. The link box works with videos that anyone can watch on Facebook without logging in.
What quality will I get?
The qualities Facebook offers for that video. Often 720p is ready immediately and 1080p needs a short preparation. Some links only give one lower quality, such as 360p, and a video uploaded in low quality has no higher versions. Some lower qualities are listed under More qualities.
Why does a quality say "Needs processing"?
Facebook keeps some qualities, often the higher ones, as separate video and sound. GetSave prepares these on its server first: it makes one MP4 file from the video and sound, or an M4A audio file. This usually takes a few seconds. Long videos can take a few minutes, so keep the page open.
Why does my link not work?
The message under the box tells you why. Most often the video is private, was deleted, or Facebook shows it only to people who are logged in. Links to a profile or a page do not work, and many links to a whole post fail too. See which links work.
Does GetSave work with private videos?
Not from their links. Videos that only friends or group members can see cannot be downloaded from their links, because Facebook does not show them to the public. If you can watch such a video on Facebook, you can try the Private video page, which works only for some videos. GetSave never asks for your Facebook password.
Can I download only the audio?
Yes, when Facebook keeps the sound as a separate track. Open the Audio tab in the results and download the M4A file. M4A plays on most phones and computers.
Where is the downloaded video on my iPhone?
Safari saves it in the Downloads folder of the Files app, and Chrome saves it in the Chrome folder there. To add it to Photos, open the video in the Files app, tap Share, then Save Video. For Android and computers, see where to find the downloaded video.
How long does GetSave keep the files?
A few hours. After that, prepared files are removed automatically and download links stop working. To get the video again, paste its Facebook link again.
Is it legal to download Facebook videos?
It depends on who owns the video and on the law where you live. Only download videos you made yourself or have permission to keep, and respect the people who made them: ask before you post their work anywhere else. Facebook's own terms also apply.
